Jesselton Debate Open (JDO) 2011

In a few days, UiTM Sabah will be hosting its first debate tournament, Jesselton Debate Open (JDO) 2011.

It is organized by Echoes Club (English Debating Society) UiTM Sabah. Which I am a part of.

It is both very exciting and nerve-wrecking to be part of the organizing committee. A lot of works and bickering among the committees, but it is all for the objectives of JDO. Last week alone, I have been running up and down more stairs, knocking on more doors, than I had for the whole year. And I did them in heels.

This is our inaugural hosting gig. We had always been the participants, never the host. But, with the support of Firdausi Suffian, our club advisor, the status has changed. And since I am a graduating student of the campus, I am even more determined to make it happen. It is one thing to graduate with flying colors, but Kim, Alia and I decided we could take it up a notch and graduate with a louder bang.

Maybe due to my mother's influence in marketing field, I find organizing events and designing marketing campaign quite enjoyable. It is quite stressful, but that's somehow, in a twisted way, is why it is fun.The more stressful it is, the more you appreciate the outcome.

However, that doesn't mean you have to be serious all the time. I always find a way to make "work" fun. A little pressure is good, but too much of it, your head would explode. Play a little, lighten up the situation, don't stress yourself. Other people's expectations and the time/budget/resource limitation done more than enough of that already.

Take a look at what we did to take the load off for one night.

And we used it for promotional purpose. Haha.

Hey, if you can't poke fun of yourself, who can? We can't be too serious all the time. Life is too short for that.

This is the final countdown! Can't wait to see the result of our hard work in such limited time and resources.
