PAD 230

Current Issues.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak has introduced the "1Malaysia" concept to unify Malaysians from different racial and religious backgronds. The introduction of the concept is also see as Najib's attempt to consolidate BN's multi-racial support.

Discuss FIVE(5) major challenges that Najib will need to overcome in implementing the concept, given the political, social and economic reality of Malaysia.

I have chosen the above topic for my PAD230 assignment. It sounds more interesting than the other 5 choices. Which are about PPSMI, H1N1, road accidents, graduate unemployment rate, and parliament.

Last semester, for Dr. Arnold Puyok's class, I chose the book "May 13: Declassified Documents on the Malaysian Riots of 1969" by Kua Kia Soong as part of my book review assignment. For the analytical-critical essay assignment, I chose to write on Francis Fukuyama's liberal democracy and how it can be applied in Malaysia. I did well on both assignments. And did I mentioned that Kimberly and I only started doing BOTH of the assignment 3 days before the dateline? Yes, we are that good.

Thou, I don't encourage others to do like we did. Kim and I suffered from ADD and professional procrastinator, so even if we started earlier, we still will finish them at the last minute, seeing that we are too easily distracted with other things. For instance, at this very moment, typing in this blog of mine, I am in my campus library. I came here with the very intention to start on my PAD230 assignment, but somehow, I ended up on Blogger.

Don't worry. We are the type who strive under pressure. I am certain that the quality of my works are better when done at the 11th hour, than when I finish them early. Not that I have much to compare on, since most of my works are done at the very last minute.

So, let me tell you more about the assignment which I am supposed to be doing instead of updating my blog. Since I chose to write on 1Malaysia, therefore I have to write about 1Malaysia. Confused?

Basically, I have to elaborate on the meaning of the "1Malaysia" concept which has been introduced by our current prime minister, Datuk Seri Najib Razak. Then, explain on the rationale for the introduction, why is it necessary, such and such. Of course, next I have to state the 5 major challenges in materializing the concept as asked by the question. Stating them won't be enough, so I'll elaborate, explain, give solutions. The usual things. Finally, I conclude my essay.

Keep in mind that the essay should be no less than 4500 words, excluding the endnotes and references. That's about 10-15 pages full of words.

Oh, and I have to submit then next Tuesday on March 23, 2010.

Today is March 17.

I have one week to do it.

Well, if you want to be specific, minus the classes, meetings, trainings I have to attend, lunch break, time I spent on my hygiene (shower etc.), sleep, on the road driving. Hmm. About 2 days or so?

Maybe I really should start on doing my assignment.

Kimberly, where are you? We need to pull another miracle together.
